Volunteers Enjoy Christmas at St. Christopher's Thrift Shop

Thrift Shop TeaOn Sunday, December 10, for the first time, St. Christopher's Episcopal Church Women broke with tradition and held their annual Christmas Tea at their Thrift Shop. The tables, spread with linen and silver, were full of sandwiches, snacks and desserts. Tea and coffee were served in china and lovely Christmas coffee cups.

The planning and set up this year were handled beautifully by ECW members Sue Davis of League City, Kasey Miller of Clear Lake, and Ruth Jarratt of Kemah. Everyone enjoyed visiting, eating, and even shopping. It was a particularly fine turn out for a cold rainy day.

A few years after St. Christopher Episcopal Church was established in the 1950s, the St. Christopher Episcopal Church Women (ECW) opened a Thrift Shop at 419 East Galveston, in League City, where it has remained for 53 years. After a while, they decided to host an annual Christmas Tea, usually at the home of one of the ECW members.

"The Thrift Shop looks just like a little British tea shop," said one guest who was originally from England. Many of the guests volunteer at the Thrift Shop for a few hours one or more days each week. More volunteers are needed in order to expand the hours of operation.
