What are you doing for Others? MLK Galveston Observance Asks

The MLK Unity Prayer Circle, hosted this year by St. Vincent’s House, Galveston, marks the life and ministry of Dr. Martin Luther King, on Monday, January 18, at noon, at 2817 Post Office St., Galveston, TX 77550.

The Rev. Ray Pinard, associate pastor and director of Hispanic ministries at Moody Methodist Church in Galveston, joins the Rev. Freda Marie Brown, executive director of St. Vincent’s and other community faith leaders to lead the prayer circle this year. Their reflections and prayers respond to one of King’s challenges: “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: “What are you doing for others?”

The Galveston Heritage Chorale and David Mitchell will provide musical offerings. The event is free and open to the public. The Prayer Circle was initiated by the former director of St. Vincent’s, Michael Jackson, and continues to be a way in which the community can gather to mark King’s life and leadership and ministry. Call 409.763.8521 or email Brown at for more information.

St. Vincent’s House is a social service agency established by the Episcopal Church to respond to the needs of Galveston’s working poor. It provides day care and early childhood education for 2-5 year olds; a primary care clinic with community partners and mentoring and educational support for at risk high school-aged students among other services.
