As a Safeguarding Trainer in the Episcopal Diocese of Texas, you have been appointed by the head of your congregation, school, or other organization and trained as a Trainer by a member of the EDOT Wellness and Care Team.

Trainers fill an important role in the diocese because they alone are qualified to lead in-person or virtual trainings for their organization. Your ability to facilitate training, and engage learners in practical application of the policies, provides a foundation for safe ministry practices throughout the diocese. To become a Trainer, you will need complete Universal Training, Specialized Training both for those who work with Children or Youth and Vulnerable Adults, and complete a Train the Trainer workshop with a member of the Wellness and Care, Safeguarding Team. Trainers will have the opportunity to meet quarterly (via zoom) with a Master Trainer and other trainers throughout the diocese. Trainers will be required to renew their aggreement annually and stay current with Safeguarding materials, policiies, and proceedures. Educational Resources for Safeguarding

Safety and protection; these are critical features of our commitment to promoting a culture of physical, emotional and spiritual health and wellness, for our children and all of us who work and volunteer in ministries to children and youth. The EDOT Policies for the Protection of Children and Youth from Abuse provides the structure we need to create and maintain programs and environments which achieve that commitment. These policies are the common language we use to define what safety and protection look like. Our "Trainer Tip" is to begin each training with a review and discussion of the policies.
